Students nominate tutors for awards for teaching and citizenship during pandemic
9 Engineering academic received awards in 2021 for their outstanding contribution to teaching in the department
Professors Amy Zavatsky, Wes Armour, Harrison Steel, Nick Hawes, Kostas Margellos and Dr Chris Vogel are 6 of the Engineering Science tutors who received 2021 Teaching Awards
As in previous years, Engineering Science students and faculty were asked to nominate academics for departmental teaching awards. Awards were made by the Excellence in Teaching and Citizenship Committee, made up of faculty and students, based on feedback on teaching and citizenship as well as the nominations from undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty.
Committee Chair and Associate Head of Department (Teaching), Professor Tom Adcock commented: “The pandemic has made this an incredibly difficult year for us all and there have been huge challenges in delivering the high quality teaching we pride ourselves on at Oxford. All of our academics have worked long hours converting teaching material to an online format and devising new ways of delivering the programme. We could have made many more awards but have selected nine colleagues whose teaching has been exceptional this year.”
"The outstanding way the faculty have responded to the difficulties pandemic underlines the commitment our academics have to delivering a world class education to our students”
Head of Department Professor Ron Roy said: “Congratulations to those who received one of our highly competitive teaching awards this year. The outstanding way the faculty have responded to the difficulties pandemic underlines the commitment our academics have to delivering a world class education to our students”.
The winners this year went to:
